My husband and I grew up in a small Kansan town. Our first jobs were here in the “big city”. Shortly after we moved here, my in-laws came to town and we went to Plaza III. It might have been the first time I had been to a white-tablecloth restaurant. I remember my father-in-law (who loved nothing more than he loved his steaks and potatoes) said, “Well. You have really made it now.” It felt like we were at the peak of sophistication and fine dining. And the food was DELICIOUS!

We have loved Plaza III for years, but our absolute favorite memory is renting the basement for our wedding reception in 2010. Everything was absolutely perfect and stunning. The food was impeccable, the service top-notch, the decorations so warm, and the music (piano player) was the perfect touch. People have raved for years about that reception! It was the start of a beautiful journey for us, and we were heartbroken when Plaza III left the plaza.

We have celebrated many milestones at the old Plaza III. Thanksgiving, engagements, anniversaries, special moments! I miss the Plaza III.

My friend & I used to go to Plaza III on Saturdays (on the plaza) around 1981 or 1982. We would order the garden salad with the little biscuits with the bottomless glass of champagne. After lunch, we would go to Seville Square and shop. We bought a lot of clothes at Casual Corner! We had such good times there! The salad dressing was so delicious as was the garden salad! I am so sorry that it is closed now.

Plaza III will always hold a special plate in my heart. In 2014 me and my (now) husband went to Plaza III on our first date. He didn’t know it was KC restaurant week so we had no reservations. The host found us a table and our waiter made sure we were taken care of all night. I knew it was going to be a wonderful night but going to Plaza III and having that experience made it even more special.

Spent a beautiful evening, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, with family in 2004! Excellent meal and service was outstanding!

Long before we could afford fine dining, we would save so we could expose our children to the experience. So Christmas Eve we took Children to Top of Crown and always had Phil as our waiter. After a few years, Phil moved to Plaza III so did our annual dinner. Later in life, we were able to go anytime and Plaza III became our Christmas tradition. The saddest part of losing the best steak in town is we lost track of our friend Phil. Plaza III always made everyone, regardless of resources, feel like they belong and were welcome.
